Chelmsford High School announces Students of the Month for September

CHELMSFORD, Massachusetts (Sept. 26, 2025) – Six seniors were recently honored as Chelmsford High School named its Lions Pride/Rotary Student of the Month recipients for September, announced CHS Principal Stephen Murray.

Students receiving recognition were Kate Evans and Adhyayan Gupta from Emerson House, Samhita Badhri and Jacob Lazar of Hawthorne House and Soham Mayani and Ethan Jiang from Whittier House.

Kate Evans

“Intellectually curious and deeply motivated,” Evans is currently enrolled in AP Literature and Composition, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, Nutrition, AP Research and AP Physics.

Evans has been inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) and the National English Honor Society (NEHS). She has further been recognized with the prestigious Harvard Book Award, honoring her position at the top of her class.

Her passion and leadership are evident through her active roles in CHS TV, the CPS Tech Department, the Mentor Program and the Math Team. Evans is also a dedicated member of the CHS Chemical Sciences Association and serves on the Board of the National Honor Society.

When she isn’t studying or lighting up the stage with her talents, Evans is often found giving back to the community as a town soccer referee or pushing herself further on her club soccer team.

In the future, Evans plans to attend a four-year university to major in math or engineering, while studying lighting design for technical theater.

She is the daughter of Theresa and Brad Evans.

Adhyayan Gupta

Gupta is currently taking a challenging course load that includes AP English Literature and Composition, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Psychology, AP Calculus, AP Physics, Computer Apps, History Through Film, Creative Coding and Nutrition.

“A standout student,” Gupta is a member of the World Language National Honor Society, NEHS and NHS. He is also an AP Scholar with Distinction, a National Merit Commended Student and has his Seal of Biliteracy in both Spanish and Hindi. As a junior, he was presented with the Yale Book Award.

“A driven leader,” Gupta is the captain of the Math Team and president of the Robotics Team; he also co-founded the Artificial Intelligence Club. In addition, he is an active member of the Science Team and the South Asian Student Association.

Beyond his academic and club leadership, Gupta also excels in athletics as a four-year member of the CHS Tennis Team, for which he currently serves as captain; he earned the Most Valuable Player Award for the 2024–25 season.

When he’s not in the classroom or on the tennis court, Gupta can be found mentoring younger students. He serves as the lead NA Mentor for a First Lego League team in Littleton, guiding students in robotics and teamwork, and is the founder of GCB_Chelmsford, a local chapter of the nonprofit GenCore Biology.

In the future, Gupta plans on attending a four-year university to focus on robotics engineering or computer science.

He is the son of Anubha and Nikhil Gupta.

Samhita Badhri

Badhri is currently enrolled in a rigorous course load including AP Calculus, AP Literature and Composition, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Research, AP American Government and Politics and Nutrition.

She has been inducted into the NHS, NEHS and National Spanish Honor Society (SHH). Badhri has also been honored as the recipient of Worcester Polytechnic Institute STEM Leadership Book Award, a Rotary Youth Leadership Award recipient and Hawthorne House Class Marshall.

Badhri has also had success at the state level, placing third in the Massachusetts Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Competition in Researched Persuasive Speaking and Writing. She has been recognized as a Member of Excellence in the National Speech and Debate Association’s Honor Society and is an AP Scholar with Distinction.

Badhri is co-president of Crescendos a capella group, president of “The Voice” newspaper, and actively participates in Speech and Debate, Class Representatives and HOSA. She also serves as a Freshmen Mentor.

Outside of school, Badhri is an intern at Boston Children’s Hospital Flow Cytometry Lab, a student representative for the Chelmsford Public Library’s Board of Trustees, a tutor and enjoys volunteering at the Chelmsford Town Clerk’s office.

Looking ahead, Badhri plans to attend a four-year university to study engineering and public policy.

She is the daughter of Nivedita Sampath and Badhri Uppiliappan.

Jacob Lazar

Described as “a bright and ambitious student,” Lazar is carrying a challenging course load that includes AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Physics, Honors Orchestra and Nutrition.

Lazar is very involved in the school community as a founding member and the president of Internal Affairs of the Middle Eastern Student Association, Violin Section Leader, founding member and president of CHS Chemical Sciences Association and an active contributor to the Science Team, Cultural Council and the Speech and Debate team.

Lazar has earned membership in NHS and Tri-M Music Honor Society. He has also been recognized with numerous awards, including the William and Mary Leadership Book Award, the Seal of Biliteracy with Distinction in Spanish, CollegeBoard National Recognition Award, and the Rachel Award for Volunteering from Alpha Martial Arts. He was also named Hawthorne House Class Marshall and an AP Scholar with Distinction.

Outside of school, Lazar maintains a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Goju-Ryu Karate Do and 1st Degree Black Belt in Okinawan Kenpo Kobudo and participates in the UNH Summer Youth Music School String and Symphony Orchestra.

Lazar is also conducting an independent chemistry research project on water quality, examining how water stagnation in pipes can degrade water quality over time.

After graduating from CHS, Lazar plans to attend a four-year university to study chemistry while completing undergraduate research.

He is the son of Heidi and Daniel Lazar.

Soham Mayani

Currently enrolled in AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Psychology, Modern World Literature and Health, Mayani is described as “an excellent student and an asset in all of his classes.”

His hard work and dedication to his studies has earned him membership in NHS and Science National Honor Society (SNHS). Mayani has also been recognized nationally by the College Board for Academic Achievement and as an AP Scholar with Honors.

Maynai has earned medals at the Massachusetts Science Olympiad in Wind Power (Gold) and Optics (Bronze). At CHS, he was the recipient of the St. Anselm College Book Award and served as Whittier Class Marshal.

In addition to his studies, Mayani is very active in clubs and activities, including the Science Team, Math Team, Chemical Sciences Association, Track and Field and Robotics Club.

Outside of CHS, Mayani enjoys volunteering at the Chelmsford Public Library and is currently self-studying the French language, which he is hoping is the fourth language he becomes verbally fluent in, along with English, Gujarati and Hindi.

After graduation, Mayani plans to study astrophysics and aerospace engineering with hopes of earning a master’s or doctorate degree upon completion of school.

He is the son of Dina and Mukesh Mayani.

Ethan Jiang

“A gifted student who is constantly learning and sharing his knowledge with others,” Jiang is currently enrolled in AP English Literature and Composition, AP Statistics, AP Calculus, AP French Language and Culture, Honors Band, Money Smart and Nutrition.

Jiang has earned membership in NHS, World Language Honor Society, and the Tri-M Music Honor Society. He has also been AP Scholar with distinction, Whittier House Class Marshal, and the recipient of the Suffolk University Book Award.

Jiang is heavily involved in the CHS community as a member of the Marching Band and Concert Band (secretary and section leader), Jazz Band, DECA (VP of marketing communications), Asian Student Organization (president) and Freshman Mentor Program; he has also played soccer.

Jiang has earned the Solo Honor Gold at the Massachusetts Instrumental & Choral Conductors Association and was a State Qualifier and Top Test Scorer in the DECA’s Professional Selling Event.

Outside of CHS, Jiang has held multiple internships, jobs and research positions. He is currently a waiter, a research and development intern, and the founder of his music instruction organization.

Jiang also finds time to give back to the community through service with The Wish Project. He was the recipient of the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award in both 2023 and 2024.

At the completion of high school, Jiang plans to attend a four-year university to study economics and statistics/math.

He is the son of Li Li and Hua Jiang.
