Advanced Placement (AP) courses are designed to move at a faster pace, cover a broader and potentially deeper curriculum than the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework articulates, and require significant independent work both inside and outside of the classroom.

Successful students in these courses have a strong track record of high academic achievement as evidenced by academic grades in previous courses, standardized test scores, and motivation in the classroom. Students can typically grasp concepts from an initial presentation. As a result, little class time will be spent practicing and/or reviewing concepts, but rather will be dedicated to extensive analysis, synthesis, and problem-solving. Students are expected to independently seek help and to organize and to budget their time for long-term assignments.

The AP program is offered in the specific interest of three groups:  secondary school students who wish to pursue college level studies while still in high school, schools that desire to offer these students the opportunity to do so, and colleges that wish to encourage and recognize such achievement.

CHS offers 20 AP Courses:

Advanced Portfolio 2 Drawing; Advanced Portfolio 2: 2D Design; AP Biology; AP Calculus AB; AP Calculus BC; AP Chemistry; AP Computer Science A; AP Environmental Science; AP French Language and Culture; AP Government and Politics; AP Language; AP Literature; AP Music Theory; AP Physics I; AP Physics C; PLTW Computer Science Principles; AP Psychology; AP Research; AP Seminar; AP Spanish Language and Culture; AP Statistics; and AP US History.

In order to complete the AP curriculum and earn AP credits, a student must remain in the course for the full year.   No partial credit will be awarded.  Students are expected to take the AP Exam.
