Chelmsford, Billerica superintendents make friendly football wager

The superintendents for Billerica and Chelmsford schools have made a friendly bet ahead of the annual Thanksgiving football game.

In the past, these wagers became a fun, annual tradition, one that Chelmsford Superintendent Dr. Jay Lang and Billerica Superintendent Dr. Kerry Clery are excited to bring back.

This year’s terms? The superintendent of the losing team’s school will wear the opposing school’s football shirt and stand on the sidewalk outside the opposing district’s high school with a congratulatory sign welcoming students as they return from Thanksgiving break on Monday, Dec. 1.

Chelmsford ended the 2025 regular season with a 4-4 record, while Billerica finished 5-3. Both teams made the MIAA State Tournament, and advanced to the Round of 8 before being eliminated.

Last Thanksgiving, the Chelmsford Lions were victorious over the Billerica Indians, 28-21. Kickoff on Thursday, Nov. 27, is set for 10 a.m. at Billerica Memorial High School Stadium.

Both superintendents are confident in their teams’ ability to be victorious on Thanksgiving and look forward to welcoming their counterpart to their home community next week.

If you’re going to the game, tickets are $10 and can be purchased on GoFan. It will also be live-streamed by Chelmsford Telemedia at this link.
