Last year, the Chelmsford baseball team rode stellar pitching, reliable defense and timely hitting all the way to a Div. 1 state title.
Wednesday’s performance from junior right-hander Evan Wilson and the defense further instilled much of that same confidence.
By punching out eight in seven innings of four-hit shutout ball, Wilson anchored the No. 17 Lions (12-6) to a regular-season sweep of Merrimack Valley Conference foe North Andover with a 5-0 win.
Shortstop Will Colucci (2-for-3, RBI, run) stood out in an offensive showing that took advantage of Scarlett Knights (11-7) miscues for four unearned runs, and his “magician” glove highlighted Chelmsford’s error-free day in the field.
The Lions plated three in the second inning, and Wilson just about took care of the rest to drop his ERA over his last four starts to 1.22.
