The Sun: Thrilling win lifts Chelmsford High into girls lacrosse state semifinals

Leading by two goals and just over nine minutes to play, the momentum was slowly being drawn away from Chelmsford.

The Lions were called for their second penalty, and on the other side was Tara Battaglino, the 6-foot-2 offensive force for Wellesley.

Instead of letting Battaglino – who is headed to play at Brown University – take over during crunch time and possibly end Chelmsford’s season, the Lions relied on their lockdown defense, spearheaded by goalie Eloise Sosnowski.

The junior made three sensational saves – two off the stick of Battaglino – and the Lions didn’t allow a goal in the final 10:40 of the fourth quarter, which was enough for the No. 2 seed to come away with a thrilling 7-6 victory over the seventh seed in a Division 1 state quarterfinal girls lacrosse game Thursday night at Simonian Stadium.
