The Sun: 220-pound Matt Stuart an imposing presence on Chelmsford High mound

NORTH ANDOVER – Matt Stuart reared back and fired a pitch which North Andover’s Sean Kilcoyne swung and missed at. That pitch sealed a three-hit shutout for the Chelmsford High ace pitcher.

“All day, baby,” he shouted, while pumping his fists in celebration of Thursday’s 2-0 shutout when he outdueled Scarlet Knights’ ace Cole Mullen.

“I had a lot of adrenaline going, especially going up against tougher competition.  I know they can hit the ball. They had a few nice hits off me, but I was able to not allow them to score and hold them on the bases,” Stuart said.

The Scarlet Knights barely touched Stuart. They managed three singles and not one runner visited Keegan Briere at third base. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound right-hander, who tops out at 90 miles per hour with his fastball – while also throwing a cutter, curve, changeup and a newly developed sinker — dominated again, striking out nine batters.
