For many high school graduating classes, getting dozens of former classmates together for a reunion can be a daunting task, let alone doing so for a 50-year reunion, while inviting their still-living high school principal.
On Saturday, the Chelmsford High School Class of 1975 was able to achieve all of these things when dozens of former classmates descended on the Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut, and with them former CHS Principal George Simonian, 97.
Simonian was the first principal in what was then a brand-new building for CHS, from which the Class of 1975 was the first to graduate. Simonian played a big role in making the new high school building happen, and he made sure to get the input of the students when doing so. He had been working in the superintendent’s office before he was asked to come on as principal after longtime Principal John Conrad retired in the years leading up to the opening of the new school. Before all that, Simonian served as a substitute teacher in his hometown at Lowell High School.
