The Sun: ‘Rely on what’s real’ – Chelmsford High School’s Class of 2025 graduates

As the Chelmsford High School Class of 2025 moves on to higher education, the workplace, and other post-graduation plans, one teacher is imploring them to “rely on what’s real.”

At Saturday’s graduation ceremony held at the Tsongas Center, faculty speaker Michael Shea warned graduates of the dangers to skilled professions presented by artificial intelligence and told them, “Your real intelligence connects you to your humanity.”

He encouraged graduates to reject AI when it comes to their education or any act of creation, and to preserve humanity against the risk of dehumanization posed by artificial intelligence.

“You are the answer to this conundrum of artificiality,” Shea said. “You must decide your own future through real intelligence in all its forms, strength of personality and human connection. It’s all we have left. It’s what defines us. It’s why we’re here today, celebrating this momentous achievement in your lives.”
