Chelmsford High School announces Students of the Month for November

CHELMSFORD, Massachusetts (Dec. 6, 2024) – Six seniors were recently honored as Chelmsford High School named its Lions Pride/Rotary Student of the Month recipients for November, announced CHS Principal Stephen Murray.

Students receiving recognition were Hannah Gemelli and Franklin Ye from Emerson House, Sara Karroumi and Arvind Rao of Hawthorne House and Jessica Jerusal and Matthew Monnes from Whittier House.

Hannah Gemelli

“A student who embodies hard work and kindness,” Gemelli is currently enrolled in AP Literature, AP Psychology, Clay Studio 1, AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP 2D Drawing and E-Commerce & Marketing.

Her hard work in the classroom has led to her membership in National Honor Society (NHS), National English Honor Society (NEHS), World Language Honor Society and National Art Honor Society (NAHS).

Gemelli is a member of Class Reps, co-president of Book Talk, director of communication for the Women in STEM club and an active participant in the CHS Mentor Program.

In addition to academics, Gemelli has been a vital member of the soccer and tennis teams throughout high school and a dedicated participant on the ski team for all four years.

In the future, Gemelli plans to attend a four-year university to study Engineering and minor in Creative Writing or Art. Her ultimate goal is to complete a civil engineering degree.

She is the daughter of Amy and John Gemelli.

Franklin Ye

Currently enrolled in AP Calculus, AP Spanish Language and Culture, Modern World Literature, AP Physics, Clay Studio, Reality Check and Robotics, Ye is a member of NHS, National Science Honor Society (NSHS) and NEHS.

He was also awarded a Junior Book Award and is a recognized AP Scholar with Honors.

Ye has been an active member of the Speech and Debate club for three years and is currently a member of Class Reps.

He serves as a peer mentor for underclassmen and is also a vital member of the CHS TV Club, where he serves as a Segment Producer.

Described as “a deeply good person,” Ye volunteers his time at Chelmsford Public Library as a teen librarian.

After graduating from Chelmsford High, Ye plans to attend a four-year college to major in Chemical Engineering.

He is the son of Hongke Ye and Dieuha Hoang Ye.

Sara Karroumi

“Dedicated to being the best student that she can be,” Karroumi is taking a demanding course load that includes AP French Language and Culture, Anatomy and Physiology Honors, AP Psychology, Calculus 1, Modern World Literature, Nutrition and Physics Honors.

She has been inducted into NHS, NEHS, National French Honor Society (SHF), SNHS and NAHS.

Karroumi is an active member of numerous clubs, including Red Cross Club, Crochet Club, Space Club and the Muslim Student Association. She is also a Class Representative and a member of the Women in STEM Club.

Next fall, Karroumi plans to attend a six-year accelerated PharmD program, where she can study to become a pharmacist.

She is the daughter of Khalid Karroumi and Sofia Khalfi.

Arvind Rao

Described as someone who “shows a genuine desire to learn,” Rao is taking a challenging and impressive course load that includes AP Computer Science, AP English Literature & Composition, AP Physics, Wellness Activities, Nutrition: The Power of Choice 12, AP Calculus and AP Statistics.

He serves as the vice president of SHF and is an active member of both the NHS and NEHS.

Beyond academics, Rao is involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including Coding Club (co-president), LIME (board member), and DECA (chapter officer).

He was awarded the FIRST Engineering Inspiration Award, has been named a National Merit Commended Scholar, received the Weslayan Book Award, and earned the PVSA Bronze.

After graduation, Rao plans to study Computer Science and Engineering at a four-year university or college.

He is the son of Venkatesh Rao and Sujatha Rao.

Jessica Jerusal

“A change-maker within the classroom,” Jerusal is currently enrolled in AP Computer Science Principles, AP Statistics, AP Research, Studio Art 1, Modern World Literature and Student Government.

She is also a member of NHS and Spanish National Honor Society (SHH).

Jerusal is very involved in the school community, having been on the volleyball, lacrosse and gymnastics teams.

She is also a member of the South Asian Student Association, Book Talk, Speech and Debate, Dean’s Council, Women in Stem and Class Reps, currently serving as the Secretary for the Class of 2025.

Following graduation from CHS, Jerusal plans to major in Finance.

She is the daughter of Julie Jeganathan and Jerusal Rajadurai.

Matthew Monnes

“A remarkable young man with immense potential,” Monnes is currently enrolled in AP Computer Science, AP Literature and Composition, AP Physics, AP Calculus, AP Government & Politics, Studio Art 1 and Reality Check.

Monnes was recently recognized as a National Merit Commended Student for his performance on his PSATs and has also been honored as an AP Scholar.

He has been a member of the Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor track teams throughout his high school career.

Outside of the classroom, Monnes can be found serving his community. He has worked with the Appalachian Mountain Club helping to fix trails, participated in the Chelmsford Town Wide Cleanup project, assisted with an Eagle Scout project and volunteered with the local Baystate Marathon.

After leaving CHS, Monnes plans to major in either Engineering or Computer Science and pursue a career in one of those fields. He also intends to continue distance running.

He is the son of Shari and Peter Monnes.
