CHELMSFORD, Massachusetts (May 24, 2024) – Chelmsford High School seniors who are planning to go into the field of teaching were recognized during a Future Teachers Signing Day ceremony on Thursday, May 23.
In total, a dozen graduating seniors plan to make the foray into education; five were present for the ceremony.
CHS Principal Stephen Murray said he’s excited to see so many seniors committing to the profession he loves.
“We need more people coming into teaching. We need more people who are nice role models to help our future generations,” he said. “[Seeing these students moving into that], I think we’re going to be in better hands.”
John MacIsaac, Dean of Whittier House, said teaching is a field that all the educators at Chelmsford High are incredibly passionate about, and he hopes the seniors planning to go into the field share that same passion.
“Not all people make the decision right away to go into education, so you’re brave,” he told them. “It’s a path that a lot of people are afraid to travel because you don’t know what every day is going to bring.”
After some brief remarks, the five future teachers present proceeded to sign letters of intent.
“The importance of quality educators in our nation’s schools cannot be understated, the letters stated. “I recognize that in my future role as a teacher, I have both the opportunity and responsibility to positively impact students’ lives and intellectual development to help each student find success.”
