World Languages Department Announces Seal of Biliteracy Prep and Exam for Seniors

Massachusetts Seal of BiliteracyCHELMSFORD, MA (Feb. 7, 2022) – The Chelmsford Public Schools World Languages Department has announced the dates for the Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy preparation workshop and exam, said Department Coordinator Jessica Nollet.

The Seal of Biliteracy exam is open to all Chelmsford High School seniors who are proficient in a language other than English.

Seniors are strongly encouraged to attend the Seal of Biliteracy information and preparation session, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 10 during PRIDE block (9:07-9:55) in the CHS Language Lab. The exam is scheduled for Thursday, Mar. 3.

To apply for the Seal of Biliteracy, seniors must complete the application form and be passing their English course for the year. To receive the Seal of Biliteracy, students must receive a minimum score of ‘intermediate’ in the categories of reading, writing, speaking and listening in the language exam.

Nine CHS students earned the Seal of Biliteracy last year (two students with Distinction) while eight students earned the Language Opportunity Coalition Biliteracy Achievement Award and 10 students the Language Opportunity Coalition Biliteracy Attainment Award.
