The Sun: Chelmsford High sophomore Gable Gray smashes javelin records

CHELMSFORD – Gable Gray isn’t one to throw caution to the wind.

With javelin in hand, the Chelmsford High sophomore track standout is nothing but meticulous in his approach. The 5-foot-11, 165-pound track star wields the instrument with poise and precision. And when he unleashes the throw, a number of school records have fallen in its wake.

Such was the case this past weekend at the Weston Twilight meet. Gray recorded a school-record effort of 199 feet, four inches, shattering the meet record, while eclipsing his own personal best milestone of 175 feet.

The historic throw ranks him as the top high school javelin thrower in Massachusetts and 10th best in the nation.

“It was unbelievable,” said Gray. “It was one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever felt. The week before I threw 192, but they messed up the measurement. So just to prove that I could throw that far was a great feeling.”
