The week before last year’s state championship meet, Chelmsford High’s Nora Williamson wasn’t really thinking about being the state’s best 50-yard freestyle swimmer.
After all, she had finished fifth and fourth, respectively, the previous two seasons.
But then the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association released its seed sheet. That’s when it became real.
“I was seeded to win,” said the CHS senior captain. “After I saw that, I visualized winning a lot and kept telling myself I could do it.”
She did. She touched the wall in 24.80 seconds and was crowned a state champion.
She said that moment played out in her head nearly every night before she fell asleep, but she needed that extra boost of confidence to make it happen.
