CHELMSFORD — Track and field is a fairly compartmentalized sport, consisting of many different sports under a larger umbrella. Though there is a large difference between the two halves of that umbrella, the “track” and “field” athletes on a team usually have no problem supporting each other.
Chelmsford High rising senior and distance runner Xavier May, 17, took that support to another level. May is a member of Scout Troop 75 of Chelmsford, and is in the middle of his candidacy for Eagle Scout, which he hopes to attain this fall. As part of the process of becoming an Eagle Scout, one must conduct some sort of project, usually in the form of building something.
While May is on the track side of things, he noticed that those in Chelmsford who do shot put were lacking in quality, regulation facilities.
