CHELMSFORD — Jillian Capozzi may not boast a copious amount of postseason experience. But her offensive toolbox in the leadoff spot had no problem translating to playoff softball on Friday night.
The sophomore was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, slugging a double and triple that led to an inside-the-park home run, to propel No. 15 Chelmsford to a 14-2 romp over No. 18 Shrewsbury in Division 1 round of 32 action.
The Lions (11-10) will likely meet No. 2 Wachusett in the round of 16.
“It’s awesome having a leadoff that can set a good tone. Getting that first batter on, I think it kind of sparks your dugout,” said Chelmsford head coach Dana Degen of Capozzi.
