The 14th-seeded Chelmsford Lions continued their Cinderella run all the way to the Division I baseball state title game by upsetting the second-seeded St. John’s Shrewsbury Pioneers, 5-3, Wednesday night.
They will now take on Braintree in the championship game.
The first three innings saw a pitcher’s duel as Chelmsford’s Finn Ramseyer and St. John’s star Brady Chenevert each got three strikeouts and allowed only two baserunners apiece and neither team threatened much.
The scoring started in the top of the fourth when Ramseyer scorched a triple to right center that brought in Matt Hall. The next batter, John Latham, knocked him home with a single to left. In the bottom half of the inning, St. John’s was able to trim the deficit to one on a sac fly from Parker Higgins, scoring Jack Fourges.
