Chelmsford High School Announces January 2023 Students of the Month

CHELMSFORD, MA (Jan. 27, 2022) – Six seniors were recently honored as Chelmsford High School named its Lions Pride/Rotary Student of the Month recipients for the month of January, announced CHS Principal Stephen Murray.

Seniors Dean Allen and Neel Verma were named from Emerson House while Lėa Bosch and Jack Dorsey were honored from Hawthorne House, and Madison Connors and Bennett Prees from Whittier House.

Sponsored by the Chelmsford Rotary Club for more than 30 years, the Student of the Month program recognizes outstanding students from each of CHS’s three academic houses – Emerson House, Hawthorne House, and Whittier House – for their achievements in and out of the classroom.

Dean Allen

A member of both the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society, Mr. Allen is currently enrolled in rigorous courses such as AP Calculus, AP Biology, AP Environmental Science, Forensic Science and Senior Odyssey, among others. Throughout his tenure, he has taken seven AP courses and seven honors courses.

A three-sport athlete in cross country, and indoor and outdoor track and field, Mr. Allen was named the recipient of the John Carson Memorial Scholarship, awarded to the senior runner who exemplifies leadership, teamwork excellence in the sport of cross country. He served as a captain of the cross country team and is currently a captain of the indoor track and field team.

Mr. Allen also gives back to the sport, volunteering at both the Bay State Marathon and the First Run 5K/10K in Lowell. Though undecided on a college, he plans to pursue either international relations or chemistry.

Mr. Allen is the son of Eric Allen and Amy Allen.

Neel Verma

A member of three national honor societies – the NHS, English and National Science Honor Society – Mr. Verma is currently enrolled in four AP courses including Calculus, Psychology, Biology and Environmental Science, as well as Honors International Relations, among other courses. Throughout his high school career, he has taken seven AP courses and 12 honors courses.

A member of the cross country, indoor/outdoor track and field teams, Mr. Verma is an all-Merrimack Valley Conference standout as well as a two-time scholar-athlete. Along with Mr. Allen, he is a co-captain of both the cross country and indoor track and field teams, and served as a volunteer for the Bay State Marathon.

Coupled with his volunteer work through CHS’s honor societies, Mr. Verma is also a member of the CHS Mentoring Program. He plans to study neuroscience or cognitive science in college and eventually work in the biotechnology industry.

Mr. Verma is the son of Maricia and Dharmender Verma.

Lėa Bosch

Currently enrolled in five AP courses, Ms. Bosch is an inductee in four national honor societies including the NHS and English, Science and World Language societies. Her current courseload includes AP Psychology, AP Literature and Composition, AP Calculus, AP Spanish and AP Computer Science.

In the Spring of 2022, Ms. Bosch received the Brandeis University Book Award, presented to 14 CHS juniors who demonstrate outstanding leadership, scholarship and loyalty to Chelmsford Public Schools. She has also been recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction.

A four-year member of the varsity volleyball team, Ms. Bosch is also active with the Care Cardz Club (for which she serves as Vice President), Interact Club, Leaders In Motion Everywhere (LIME), and the Freshman Mentor Program. Off campus, she also volunteers at the Chelmsford Food Pantry and assists children at Dragon Phoenix Martial Arts.

Ms. Bosch aspires to study business in college and is considering law school afterward. She is the daughter of Otto Bosch and Sylvie Bosch-Charpenay.

Jack Dorsey

An honor roll student throughout his years at CHS, Mr. Dorsey is a member of both the NHS and National English Honor Society while excelling in such courses as AP Calculus, AP Computer Science, AP Government, Biotechnology and Programming, among others.

A student-athlete and musician, Mr. Dorsey is a captain of the CHS swimming and diving team and earned all-Merrimack Valley Conference honors as a junior. A saxophonist, he a member of the CHS Pit Orchestra, performing at musicals, as well as the CHS Jazz Band. He is also an active member of Class Representatives, GIVE Club, and the Freshmen Mentor Program.

Outside the campus, Ms. Dorsey volunteers with the Senior Youth Group at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He also works at Market Basket as well as Kimball Farms in the summer months.

Undecided on a college, Mr. Dorsey plans to study computer science with an aim to work in data encryption. He is the son of Chris and Deb Dorsey.

Madison Connors

An accomplished singer and actor, Ms. Connors is currently enrolled in challenging courses such as AP Psychology, Forensic Science, Introduction to Statistics and Senior Odyssey, among others.

A member of the CHS Theatre Guild, Ms. Connors has performed numerous roles throughout her years at CHS, most notably the role of Paulette in the Fall musical, “Legally Blonde,” for which she earned rave reviews. She is also involved with the CHS Choir and has worked with the school’s two a cappella groups, The Thursdays and The Crescendos.

Though yet to decide on a college, Ms. Connors plans to study psychology and hopes to pursue both research and private practice.

Ms. Connors is the daughter of Christine Connors.

Bennett Prees

A decorated student, Mr. Prees is a member of the NHS and has thrived in courses such as AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP/Project Lead the Way Computer Science Principles and AP Psychology, among others. He is also a National Merit Commended Student; the recipient of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship and the Koplik Certificate of Mastery with distinction.

Mr. Prees is also an accomplished athlete and musician. He is a four-year member of the CHS volleyball and swim and dive teams, and also competed in track and field. A trombonist, he has performed with the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble at the New England Conservatory.

Mr. Prees is also a member of LIME, GIVE Club, and the CHS Mentors Program. He plans to major in mechanical engineering in college and to later pursue a master’s degree.

Mr. Prees is the son of Ian and Holly Prees.
